I recently had a lesson in humility on an airplane. Prior to that trip, and on five consecutive trips preceding it, flight attendants had told me that they were students of A Course in Miracles and had either read my books or heard my lectures and had received much help from them.

On this particular trip I was starting down the aisle when a stewardess stopped me and said, “Hello, Jerry!” I paused, waiting for her to tell me that she had read my books or attended one of my lectures. Instead, she smiled and pointed to my sleeve.

And then I remembered: I was wearing a sweater with my name monogrammed on the sleeve.

I felt that God was giving me a gentle lesson in humility, and I recalled Mother Teresa’s remarks to my son about humility.
